Welcome to Mr. Davis' 2019-2020 class!
To give a little bit of background about myself, I have been an English teacher for the last five years, and have been teaching at Lomira for one of those years. The other four years were spent in Arizona at two different schools within the same district. I'm currently teaching Sophomores, Sophomore Advanced, and Seniors. I am also working on getting a Debate team back at Lomira so that we can compete again with the other schools in the state. I primarily have a strong emphasis in classic literature, meaning anything from 50 years ago and beyond. Some of my favorite pieces of literature to teach include Shakespeare and Romantic poetry.
What Can You Expect From Mr. Davis' Class?
The classes I teach are both very rigorous as well as easily accessible. We'll be hitting on some difficult texts and you will be challenged throughout the school year. We're going to be employing many different strategies with a heavy emphasis on textual analysis and critical thinking. I find that all students have the capacity to think critically, but it's important to understand that such a feat isn't expected overnight. We'll be working on those critical thinking skills every step of the way through the various activities and instruction in the class and I'll be right there in the trenches as well. If students need extra help, I am available during resources, during lunch or before or after school by appointment. I strongly encourage students to seek me out for additional support even if they're not struggling to build and maintain their progress towards a better understanding of standards, texts, and even the world beyond.
